Is it possible to learn how to speak Arabic without learning the Arabic alphabet?

Filed under: Learn Arabic Language — admin @ 7:30 pm

I'm interested in learning how to speak Arabic but I don't feel like learning how to write in Arabic. Is it possible to speak it without learning the alphabet or learning how to write in Arabic? Any suggestions on how to learn it?

Generally speaking it is possible. But you would completely have to rely onto your ear and use transcription methods if you need to write something down in order to memorize words and expressions. It is possible but I am convinced that it would be by far more difficult way than using ten days of your time for learning Arabic alphabet. Since I learned Arabic in school, I can tell you that Arabic alphabet isn't difficult to learn at all. As a matter of fact, it is quite easy, you need about 10 days to master it (28 letter signs in 4 variants depending on their position within a word, my point is, nothing harder than learning English alphabet, actually much easier) and from my experience I noticed that Arabic is in strong connection with its alphabet, you can see logical connections between different words more easily, you can find roots, you can get into the structure of the language if its written in Arabic. All of that helps you learn and it is a great savor of time although it doesn't seem like that at first glance.

  3. It is possible even if u dont know the alphabets. There are illiterates all over the world who speak their own language though they dont know the writing or reading skills. For learning Arabic, you must have someone present before you who can prnounce the consonants through your inner throad. Example: Kh and Q are different. Q and K are different. Try listening to some radio programs. Alternatively, you can contact a teacher in the nearby Madras, if situated in your place, or a maulvi of a mosque. He can be the best guide to achieve your objective
