How long will il take me to learn french?
Im very very very goog at learning and speaking new languages, but i only know 2 of them. Is french hard? How many years will il take me to master it? Which other language should i learn afterwards?? Is rosetta stone usefull in french? I owuld apreciate all your answers- Xion
I’ve been taking French classes for almost a year and it can be easy if you have a good instructor. You should start with the basics like numbers, letters, and simple phrases. Once you feel comfortable with that you can move on to more advanced things, from talking about the weather to caring on full conversations. As for how long it takes to learn, that depends on the student. Some get good within the first 2 years of lessons; for others 4 or more years is not uncommon. I personally have never tried rosetta stone but I hear that it is a great program and it might be the way to go if you need to learn the language quick for your job. However I believe the best thing to do would to read up on the subject in addition to taking classes. French is not hard. As long as you have a good teacher, a willingness to learn, and a positive mindset, you can master French in just a few short years

depends if you go to the country to learn it or if u learn it from here, languages are taught differnt hear compared to the actual country

I love french. My father is from Rouen so he taught me how to speak it, but to learn french very fluently i had to spend a summer there, but for a talented person like yourself it shouldn’t take more then a year with hard work. If you know spanish its kinda like that. Its also a good way to pick up women.

I have been taking french for 3 years. I LOVE it. I have never tryed Rosetta Stone but you should try it or another program like it. French is pretty easy, if you know other languages it should be easy for you.

I’d say French is one tough cookie, cookie.
Cause it is, that’s all. The Frenchies don’t pronounce the ends of their words, oddly enough. It’s as if they only want fellow Frenchies to "get it", not that there is anything wrong with an inside joke I just think it poor communication when it goes quite as far as basing an entire language on that premise.
But if the sad fact is you are well versed in the written word, and I’m sure that was a great waste of talent on your part when you could have been a engineer, perhaps, if you’d only applied yourself… Then I’m sure you’ll do well. Cause then you can study cryptology and figure out what others are saying, and be prepared through visualization, what words you will have to crop so badly that the truly English will pass out trying to decode…

it takes 4 years in highschool to learn it but thats not over summer and they are teaching it to like 30+ kids so about a a year or 2 to fully learn french

it depends how you chose to study it…if you learn it at a school/on a course then maybe a few years…but if you go to france it would take a lot less time. the best way to learn a language is to immerse yourself!

If you have knowledge of the language, Rosetta Stone will help you expand your vocabulary base. But it won’t teach you to speak a language from scratch, that is not what flashcard methods like Rosetta are designed to do. So yes, it works if you want to work on expanding vocabulary but it will not teach you conversational skills. Knowing many words in any given language, does not mean you can speak that language. You need something to build upon, a foundation. If speaking and understanding French is what you are after and are a beginner, I would recommend against Rosetta Stone as a starting method. If you want a method that focuses on conversational skills, Pimsleur is the reference imo. You will learn to train your ear to understand natives (an essential part of early learning often overlooked by other methods), develop very good pronunciation and acquire the core structures and grammar of the language. I find that it does very well with new students as it is a real confidence builder, which is essential for new students imo. If anyone can get you to roll those French Rs, Pimsleur is the one. Their courses are also almost half the price of RS (check Amazon for best pricing.) You can do their course on the go, in the car, on your ipod, etc., which may or may not be an advantage to you.
