What is a good website to learn Japanese online?

Filed under: Learn Japanese Language — admin @ 10:00 am

I really want to learn Japanese, but my school doesn't offer it as a language choice.
Does anyone know a clear, concise, user-friendly website that could help me learn? Thanks.

The following website is pretty good. You can get lots of information and they are stuff ready for different ability levels.

http://www.japanesepod101.com/

If you have an iPod, you can get their podcasts via itunes as well.

You can probably find more sites like that at

im starting my first japanese class this fall but i want to get a head start! let me know what some cool sites are to learn beginners japanese. thanks.

You can download a tool on http://www.byki.com/

It is free and gives you a lot of basic vocab plus pronunciation. I am currently using it for Portuguese and I love it.

Learn Japanese: Mary had a little lamb in Japanese

MP3 and Translation at:
http://genkienglish.net/genkijapan/maryhadalittlelamb.htm

Here’s a Japanese song you can learn in 10 minutes. It’s bound to impress your friends!

There are also lots of really useful Japanese phrases in there, for example:

の = no = which means ’s. For example Madonna’s CD is “Madonna no CD” in Japanese.

All the other words are explained on the GenkiJapan.net page at:
http://genkienglish.net/genkijapan/maryhadalittlelamb.htm

There’s also the mp3 version to buy and listen toon your ipod everyday ( to get it stuck in your head, and to support us making more videos!), and a poster for your wall!

Enjoy,

Be genki,
Richard

What is an easy way to learn Japanese?

Filed under: Learn Japanese Language — admin @ 10:28 am

I would really like to learn Japanese. Are there any free sites that can help me do this?
I would really just like to learn Japanese so I can understand what's going on in my animes that don't have english subs. I know a few words from watching anime but that's not enough to understand what's going on in their conversation.

So you want to learn Japanese eh? Great choice! The language is fun, the culture is fascinating, and the food is delicious!

Here's a few tips to get you started.

1. Be aware that Japanese is unlike any other language. You need to completely rewire your brain to speak it effectively. This website ( http://kimallen.sheepdogdesign.net/Japanese/index.html ) gives a great introduction on how the language is structured in relation to English.

2. Language learning consists of four parts: Hearing, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. Be sure to focus on each of these areas, but especially hearing and speaking. To help, try JapanesePod101.com ( http://www.japanesepod101.com/ ) and sign up for their free podcasts. This is a great resource for Japanese learners. You can also look for a Japanese pen pal on the internet. Shared Talk ( http://www.sharedtalk.com ) seems to have serious students, who aren't just looking for a girl/boyfriend.

3. Study everything! Don't look for one or two resources and expect to learn everything from them. When someone asks which book, CD, or computer program is best to learn from, I say, "All of them!" I learned something from every Japanese language-related book I've ever read. Read a lot and you'll learn a lot. For starters, I liked the book "Japanese: The Manga Way" by Wayne P. Lammers.

4. Take a class. The good thing about taking a Japanese class is that it forces you to study, even if you don't want to. It also provides a nice structure for learning the language, along with someone who can correct your pronunciation.

5. Go to Japan! This is the number one, fastest, easiest, guaranteed-to-work way to learn Japanese. Even if it's just for a visit, being immersed in the language is a huge benefit to study. Japanese people are usually really supportive of foreigners learning their language and their encouragement will be a great boost for you.

6. Never give up! Japanese is a really hard language. It might seem fun now, but it also requires a lot of memorization and practice. Don't expect to be fluent even after a few years of study (especially if you're not studying in Japan). Language learning is a life-long pursuit.

これから頑張ってね!

What's the best technique to learn Japanese?

Filed under: Learn Japanese Language — admin @ 1:30 pm

I've been attempting to learn Japanese on my own for over a year now. Unfortunately I've not been very dedicated to learning it i.e. consistently or a few hours each week.

It's also come to my attention that I am approaching it wrong. I started in with the kana, and proceeded to learn the kanji (midway through Level/Grade 3 only). Someone told me there's no need to learn to 'read' if you can't speak it. And it's not as if I can decipher anything much with just a Grade 3 level of kanji.

Should I change my focus to learning to speak Japanese? Is that the best way to start learning? Build up my vocabulary of Japanese words?

Note - I watch quite a bit of J-drama/shows/anime and movies and listen to J-pop (or music since it's not really pop ..lol) .. so again .. maybe understanding speech would be beneficial yes.

Hmm… Ok, if you are now living in Japan.
1. Do language exchange with Japanese international student who major TESOL, Japanese, communication or linguistics. For example, 15minutes Japanese only and 15 minutes English only. It is a fair deal, right? He/She may also explain about culture. When learning a language, cultural context is impoetant. I think you can get that from the conversation partner. You can gain listening and speaking skills.
2. Reading and writing is also important. Start little by little. no ruch :) Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening are all important. When you write, verbalise and write. When you read, slowly but make sure to read step by step. After finish reading short paragraph, read fast again and go to next. You will be fine. Don't worry.
3.Movie and music…For your listening, first, watch/listen with caption and after watch/listen without caption.
Language has no short cut. Sometimes you face difficulties, but when you face difficulties, think you are learning more. Do not worry everybody go up and down then master the language :) Good luck!!!!!!!

How can i learn japanese by steps?

Filed under: Learn Japanese Language — admin @ 12:46 pm

I'm starting to learn japanese by my own, I already know some basic stuff but i want to learn more, are there any websites that are helpful but free with no downloads necessary?

How to start

1. The first thing you should do is to get known with HIRAGANA and KATAKANA, both have about 46 signs and lots of exceptions! This won't take long if you practice reading and writing every day. Try this: http://www.realkana.com/hiragana/

2. Make sure you hear lots of japanese, your brain will automatically save the pronounciation.

3. The best way to learn is to learn systematically, so you should buy a japaneselearning book. I hardly recommend "みんなの日本語" MINNA NO NIHONGO. A learning book for foreigners in Japan. The book is in japanese but you can also get the englisch translation.

4. About Kanjis
In the most learning books you learn some kanjis in each unit. By the way, Minna no nihongo has an own Kanji learn book.

5. More tips:
SPEAK OUT!
Not just learn and read all the time, but practice your speaking too. Try to get native speakers to talk to you.
LISTEN!
Listen to as much japanese stuff as you can. Radio, Tv, YouTube, podcasts, songs, news,.. everything!
READ!
Practice your reading every day, speak out loud while reading.
Practice! Practice! Practice!
You won't learn japanese by learning 10 minutes a day, but if you really want to learn it make sure you learn a lot!

I hope this helps, and you really should get some japaneselearning book (maybee some dictionary and kanji-lexikon later). Any more questions? Contact me at kokonotsusei@gmail.com >.<

How do I learn japanese, quick?

Filed under: Learn Japanese Language — admin @ 4:04 pm

I was planning to take a class for japanese, but my school doesn’t have that language, they only have spanish and french. T_T
How could I learn japanese???

Firstly, what a great thing that you are interested in learning Japanese. Its a great language to learn.

1 remark on your question: I would not count on a “quick” way in learning Japanese.

As for how you could learn Japanese: Try starting off with some free lessons online maybe before spending any money on it.
here is one for the day that made me laugh: http://languagetutorial.net/learn-japanese-numbers-1-to-20

Ill add some more sources below that might be interesting to browse around.

Kind regards
