How can I learn french by myself?

Filed under: Learn French Language — admin @ 10:00 am

I want to learn French through internet so can you tell me any web sites about it?of curse i know some sites but they are not useful.can you tell me a useful one that you have experienced it?

Hi! I’m currently teaching myself French as well. Yes, Rosetta Stone is very useful and productive; however, it does get a bit mundane and mind-numbing. I now use several different web-sites in order to keep things interesting.
Here are my 3 favorites:

1.www.bonjour.com
2.http://french.about.com/
3.http://learnfrench.elanguageschool.net/

Best of all these websites are free and #2 and #3 offer online quizzes so you can track your progress.

I’ve also been watching movies in French with English Subtitles, which doesn’t do much for my memorization, but it does help keep me accustom to proper pronunciation.

Later!

Can anyone recomend a good language program that i can learn french from?

Filed under: Learn French Language — admin @ 12:34 pm

i'm curently planning to live in Paris in about five or so years, and i need to learn french. i really need some kinda of book-on-tape system with a book to learn the langue as best as i can before i move. that you for your help.

To improve your French you could Read French books and Magazines.
Write Letters, Postcards etc. and keep on practice writing it.
Watch French Films, TV shows, Look up your favourite soaps/shows on you tube and either have them in French or put French subtitles on. Listen to French music too and listen, read and understand the song lyrics and words to make it more fun.

Get a tutor and/or go to night classes.

You could also get a pen pal and talk to them on the phone, by IM or e-mail and by letter writing.
You could also use these Websites to help you:

How to learn a good level of FRENCH before June?

Filed under: Learn French Language — admin @ 4:14 pm

I plan on studying for at least a half hour EVERY day until mid-June. I am almost fluent in Spanish and think this will help me learn French a lot faster since they are both romance languages.

Have you learned both French and Spanish? What websites can I go to that are best for learning French?

Merci!

I would visit

www.about.com/french
www.babbel.com

You could try learning something specific every night, such as
-all tenses of a certain verb
-all aspects in one set of vocab e.g. - each part of the body, all the different fruits etc.

Another great boost is to download French songs to listen to outside of your half hour every day, if you find songs you like, it won't feel like you're studying. There are also some excellant French films you could watch to get a grip on pronunciation. Try Amelie or Chocolat to begin with!

Hope this helps!

Is it possible to learn fluent french in just 1 1/2~2 years? How can I learn fast and in an effective way?

Filed under: Learn French Language — admin @ 2:00 pm

I am not going to any french classes or having a tutor. I plan to learn french by self teaching with books, internet, and internet youtube videos….

I want to learn fluent french atleast in two years. Possible or no? Is it easy to speak french when you already know english?

btw, will it be easy to learn german as well IF im fluent in french? are the grammers similar or anything?

Yes with these conditions.

1. You are fluent in English
2. You've studied a second language

If you meet these conditions, you can speak, understand and write French fluently within 1 year.

When you don't understand a word, you can ask for its definition.

How to do it? Two ways, my way or highway.

My way: Find a friend or someone who's willing to speak French with you everyday for one year. I assure you that you'll speak fluently in French. Proof: I speak with my wife in Spanish all the times for about 8 months.

Highway: You do it yourself. lol

Does anyone knows a good audiobook to learn french and italian?

Filed under: Learn French Language — admin @ 10:28 am

I want to learn french and italian, one first then the other of course.
Please let me know if you have a good learning experience with an audiobook.

CDs definitely are interactive. There is one set that you can burn to mp3 and carry around in an mp3 player and practice “interacting” with the lessons by respoinding. It is called Pimsleur, Beginning French. Ask at your local library or ask if they can do an inter-library loan. If they do a loan, check out the first lesson (it teaches you to speak simply right away) and then get them made into mp3 files so you can send them back.

How long does it take to learn French?

Filed under: Learn French Language — admin @ 1:30 pm

As a native English speaker how long would you say it would take to learn French? I was thinking about taking lessons twice a week.
I'm actually moving to Canada soon.
Estimation on average…

How much do you want to know?

Usually by one year you should have knowledge of some basic French. By two or three years you should be able to write and read in it well. If you're surrounded by French people, you should learn French faster.

However, learning French is a lifelong process… this goes for any language.

Im 21, what language is easiest to learn French or Japanese?

Filed under: Learn French Language — admin @ 12:46 pm

I’ve been told now that im out of school it is harder for me to learn a language as it is easier to when you are younger, or a child. Is this true? Me and my boyfriend are thinking of taking lessons next year as we plan to travel in a few years time and would like to know the language, he thinks French would be more common as alot of countries have French as a basic language (are there multiple french languages though?) whereas only Japan speak Japanese.

Yes, children naturally learn better, but that’s because they’re more adaptable. After fifteen or so the only thing that determines difficulty is your native tongue. Obviously yours is English. Therefore, a Western language that shares origins with English would be easier for you than a language that requires you to learn three new writing systems and has nothing in common with English.

Most effective at home way to learn french?

Filed under: Learn French Language — admin @ 4:04 pm

I am going to France to become an exchange student next year in August. Although previous language study is not necessary, I really want to make the best of my time there. Therefore, i would like to learn as much french as possible before my departure. What are the best ways to learn buy purchasing books or CD roms. Please be very specific as to the title of the worksheet/CD/Movies. And i am not looking for anything too pricey.
thank You:)

Rosetta Stone is awesome, but it’s too pricey. However, you could go to www.livemocha.com and it is a site similar to that of Rosetta Stone software, available free.
