What is harder to learn, Russian or German?

Filed under: Learn Russian Language — admin @ 5:34 pm

I'm thinking about taking a Russian or German class as my foreign language for school. I just wanted to know if any experts can tell me which one is easier to learn?

I took Russian in College and I found it to be super easy. I also lived in Germany for a month before I went to college and I picked up the language quite fast (within one week) but I did not know how to read or write German.

I think if you can get over the different alphabet, Russian is quite easy although if you are taking as your language requirement, I must warn you that the vocabulary gets way more difficult in the second semester of Russian; The words become longer but the grammar is still relatively easy.

On the other hand, I find German easier to learn by ear because the English language borrows a lot of its vocabulary from German. However, a friend of mine who was a German major in College admitted that German reading & writing is VERY difficult; German combines words making them really long and hard to pronounce. She also said the grammar was incredibly difficult unlike Russian. Today she is a professor…of Russian.

So..for the total College requirement (reading, writing, speaking) I'd say Russian is the way to go.

To get a sample of learning the different languages, I suggest you go to www.beforeyouknowit.com , a website that starts you off with learning new languages..it's says you should buy the program but they do have a "baby" program that's free. It really gives you a feeling for whatever language you want to learn.

You can temporarily download the language you are interested in from that site and give it a try. You'll probably be able to make a better choice for yourself after you take a spin through Before You Know It.

Best of Luck!
:-)

Is there anyone here Who wants to learn Portuguese and teach me English?

Filed under: learn Portuguese language — admin @ 5:33 pm

I am from Brasil and I am learning English. I´d like to improve my english with who really knows.

Why do you want some one to teach you English? A decade ago to learn English, you had to attend costly English classes or purchase course material like tapes and books. Now you can learn English for free from the comfort of your home using the Internet. The BBC and the British Council offer a number of on line courses, which teach written and spoken English. You can also improve your English by watching television programs and reading English newspapers. For more information, visit http://tinyurl.com/qnzpt

Does anyone on here speak SWAHILI?

Filed under: learn Swahili language — admin @ 5:33 pm

I'm into learning new languages and currently, I want to learn swahili and become fluent in it. I know some basic stuff, but can anyone give me good tips on what would help me learn Swahili, and not just basics either. I want to get deep into it.
serious answers please

Kwa nini unapenda kijui Kiswahili? Wewe unakaa wapi? You have to be motivated. Clearly you are, but to learn any language you must have people to speak it to. Language is above all a means of communication. Perhaps you could go to East Africa as a volunteer and practise it there? You'd learn very quickly that way. There are various links. http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:qym24diBENwJ:www.wn.com/swahili+swahili+broadcasts&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1 and http://www.unb.ca/web/civil/dccchair/dmm/swahili.html> I have no idea where you are based, but BBC World Service and Voice of America have broadcasts in Swahili. Do a Google search on Swahili broadcasts and you'll be pleased with the results.

I would like to learn italian as a 2nd language does anyone know a website that teaches italian for free?

Filed under: Learn Italian Language — admin @ 5:33 pm

To me the italian language sounds really cool and i would really like to learn it so i need somebody’s help. if anyone knows of a website that has a english to italian dictionary that lists all the words without having to type them in would be so much easier. it would also help if u didnt have to sign up for anything and it is free. Plzzzzzzzzzzz help.

http://www.livemocha.com
They have free, interactive classes where you can talk to native Italian speakers through IM on the site. They have interactive classes, quizzes, and work, that you do on the website for people to check and review. Make sure to take the pre-test before you sign up for a class because it will recommend what Italian level class you should take. You have to register, but it is free…..registration only takes likes 2 minutes.
Good Luck with Italian!

I want to learn Arabic? Plz give me link of any websites?

Filed under: Learn Arabic Language — admin @ 5:33 pm

I want to learn arabic of Saudi arabia.

I think there is no site to teach Saudi Arabian language specifically, but if you learned the Standard Arabic you will be able to communicate with all Arabian societies because there is no big difference in language its just a small difference in the acsent but you will be able to understand any Arabic speaker.
As for the site,i've been studying Arabic for 7 months with Arabicollege.com using live video interactive classes with Arabic native teachers who are available 24/7, go there and get a try..
Good luck

How important is it to learn Russian respectively in Europe & Asia ?

Filed under: Learn Russian Language — admin @ 5:01 pm

As much as I know, Russian doesn’t have any influence upon (Latin) America, Africa, & Australia, but perhaps it is generally regarded as an important language in Europe & Asia, the question is that, how important is Russian respectively in Europe & Asia. & Is Russian really harder than German in aspects of grammar, cases, gender, & syntax ? And is Russian really much easier than Arabic? Thanks !

No, Russia doesn’t really have much influence on Latin America, Africa or Australia, but it is an important influence and Russian is an important language particularly in Eastern Europe. While Russian itself might not be universally used in Eastern Europe, it is related to other Slavic languages, such as Polish.

As one woman said before me, Cyrillic is used for Mongolian, but I am not sure if Russian would be very helpful in Asia. Even though Northern China, Mongolia, and Manchuria are near Russia geographically, the areas might not care for the Russian language because of cultural differences (the language might remind them of the culture if they don’t mix well).

As for the difficulty level, I’ve tried both and Russian is “harder” for an English speaker to learn because it isn’t an Indo-European language (it’s not closely related linguistically to English at all in terms of Grammar or vocabulary), whereas German is related to English (English is considered to be a “Germanic” language). The Russian grammar structure can be more difficult to learn than German for an English speaker, and all of the different case forms can make one’s head spin. However, for me Russian vocabulary seems to “stick” more easily than German. I haven’t tried to learn Arabic, but I would think that Arabic would be harder to learn than Russian mostly because Arabic is devided into a bunch of dialects, so the Arabic Algerians speak might be a little different from the Arabic Egyptians speak and so on. If you learn the “standard” Arabic, you’ll be understood a little bit, but won’t be able to communicate with ease with people.

Hope this helps, and good luck!
