What are some good ways to learn Brazilian Portuguese?

Filed under: learn Portuguese language — admin @ 10:56 pm

I already tried the “Everything learning Brazilian Portuguese book” and that didn’t work, so, what other books are out there that I can use?

Never the learning of another language was so easy, everyone can do this just surfing through the internet . There's a whole buch of sites everywhere with relevant content to help you.

On my opinion the best is this:
http://livemocha.com

in fact i'm using the services of livemocha.com by now. I'm learning russian and french.

But I recommend you to join a site where you can chat with natural speakers and, I mean, even here in Y! you can find a lot of portuguese speakers. bTW I'm Brazilian

But you can try also

Orkut.com

Cause more than 60% of members are Brazilian

Surf through Brazilan Blogs (mainly in blogspot) and try to read them and make comments on them. — doing this you will face most Brazilan more slangs and "natural communication" than usual books can teach you.

Besides, I recommend you to listen music (try singers as Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Alceu Valença, Gonzaguinha, Chico Buarque, João Gilberto they are the best — or something more up-to-date as this rock bands Fesno, Paralamas do sucesso, Titãs), watch some movies (Cidade de Deus, Carandiru, Central do Brasil, Tropa de elite) and some reading (novel, tales, jokes etc) that you can also be found easily on the internet.

Tanzania is also Very good.

You know they say, if you want to learn a foreign language, the best place to do that is to go to that particular land where they speak it.

Swahili is very easy

Essay intro help please–Is this strong enough to get me into a university??

Filed under: learn Khmer language — admin @ 10:56 pm

Topic:
Discuss how your family's experience or cultural history enriched you or presented you with opportunities or challenges in pursuing your educational goals.

Intro:
The most important lesson I’ve learned was never intentionally taught. It was a lifestyle that was put upon me while I was growing up. My parents emigrated from Cambodia to America to escape the Khmer Rouge. They depend on me as much as I depend on them because they are not able to speak and read English very well. As a result, they have made it difficult for me to seek help from them regarding my school work simply because I know that they cannot help me.

i know the topic is a bit implicit– Had only the teacher to help me learn in my academics

please help and advise to make it stronger, i really want to get accepted.

Try fleshing out your essay more. In what ways do you depend on them for your education? Has their inability to speak English had any positive effects on your education? If so, what? How does your background influence your perspective of education?

What is a good textbook to learn Japanese?

Filed under: Learn Japanese Language — admin @ 10:56 pm

I am looking for a textbook so I can learn Japanese very well. I am a beginner too. I have bought books before but none of them have had what I am looking for. I would like a structured student textbook so it may be easier to learn. Can anybody suggest a good maker for a Japanese textbook?

We used Nakama 1 and 2 in college. They were very good.

Is Berlitz French Premier a good way to learn the French language?

Filed under: Learn French Language — admin @ 10:56 pm

Do you have any other software recommendations that help you learn French?

I used Berlitz when I was studying Spanish, and it seemed like an excellent program and method of learning. I had to supplement that with other Spanish resources, but it certainly gave me a good foundation, and I’m sure the French version is of equal quality.

I have personally never tried the Pimsleur audio program, but I have heard only good things about it, so I would also recommend that to you. If you already have Berlitz, go ahead and do it, but if you haven’t purchased anything yet, I personally know people who have had good results with Pimsleur.

Those are the 2 language schools I know of that will probably offer Arabic: the other language schools I know of offer mainly English & French. (i.e. Alliance Francaise, ELS Language Center)

Good luck!

What language do you recommend if you want to learn how to program?

Filed under: Language Tutorial — admin @ 10:56 pm

Assuming a person knows nothing about programming, but wants to begin learning, what programming language would be the easiest, yet most effective, introduction to coding?

Which language is easier to transition from when trying to learn other languages?

Are there any languages to avoid?

Where can one learn about and how to program, and tutorials on different programming languages, maybe even a pros and cons site about individual programming languages?

Anyways, thanks for any help you cool kids can offer!

Python is a good beginners language.
http://python.org/

It is OO, so it is relatively easy to transition to other OO languages from it.

There are lots of languages to avoid, BrainFuck is an obvious one.
