I am in 9th grade (freshman) and I have to take 3 years of language in High School. I really want to take German and I was wondering if it’s a fun and not too difficult language to learn. By the way I’m not a slacker and I dont mind a challenge, I just dont want it to be impossible. Thanks.
go for it
don’t settle for another language if german is what you want to take!!
this is my 7th year of german (i’m a senior) and it’s the best class i’ve ever taken
the language is not as hard as most people think - it’s actually easier than french and spanish.
english and german are germanic languages, whereas french and spanish are romance languages (not because they sound pretty, but because they come from Rome - latin)
it is much easier for a native english speaker to learn german than to learn spanish/french/italian etc.
and don’t let the long words scare you… all long words in german are just shorter words put together.
for example, "anrufbeantworter" is "answering machine"
anruf = call
beantworter = answerer
in english, we separate "answering machine", but it german, they just combine the two words… kind of like us writing "answeringmachine"
i love german and i hope i helped!!! definitely try it

I’m in high school, and im trying to decide if I should take German 1 next year along with French 3. I really like the German language, but it seems really different from French. Im also afraid if I take two languages , I’ll get confused. How hard is German to learn, and would it be a bad idea to take it next year?
I think it won’t be that difficult since German and English are both Germanic languages. You will find along your learning process a lot of similarities between these two languages.
My native language is Spanish and have never in my life learn anything about Portuguese and Italian, but since these languages are all Latin, is very easy to understand a Portuguese or an Italian person and viceversa.
Greetings.
I’m only 15 so I can’t order anything online, I might be able to buy books from a chain book store, though. Any useful websites?
I know there’s so many dialects, which should I learn? Should I start w/ the alphabet?
If I learn one dialect, & communicate w/ someone who speaks another, would it be that difficult to understand? How easy would it be to learn another form if I already learned one?
You should start by learning Standard Arabic first, then it will be easier to learn or understand dialects.
Does anyone know a website where I can learn italian?
Like tutorials, exercises, basic phrases, etc?
Not just a translator please.

I’m going to be doing a lot of traveling in north western europe when I grow up, maybe even live there since that’s where my family is from. So, I want to learn a lot of germanic languages. I’m going to take german 1 this year, & if I learn german I’ll move onto dutch, since I heard that’s the closest to german. Thanks.
Since English, Swedish, and German are all Germanic languages you shouldn’t have too much difficulty[mostly with vocab] but remember learning a new language is never completely easy so there will be some challenges.
I need to literally learn French in a year. I know this is almost impossible but i have no choice. I am writing the ICSE Boards in March, and my 2nd language is French. Im very very very goog at learning and speaking new languages, but i only know 2 of them. Is french hard? How many years will il take me to master it? Which other language should i learn afterwards?? Is rosetta stone usefull in french? I owuld apreciate all your answers- Xion
I’ve been taking French classes for almost a year and it can be easy if you have a good instructor. You should start with the basics like numbers, letters, and simple phrases. Once you feel comfortable with that you can move on to more advanced things, from talking about the weather to caring on full conversations. As for how long it takes to learn, that depends on the student. Some get good within the first 2 years of lessons; for others 4 or more years is not uncommon. I personally have never tried rosetta stone but I hear that it is a great program and it might be the way to go if you need to learn the language quick for your job. However I believe the best thing to do would to read up on the subject in addition to taking classes. French is not hard. As long as you have a good teacher, a willingness to learn, and a positive mindset, you can master French in just a few short years
Bon Chance!!! (good luck)
